Can Feelings, Thoughts & Spirit Affect Our Health, Fitness & Sport Performance?

Biopsychosocial & State in Life & Sport: Life & Health/Performance Hand-In-Hand

"The body is a living cybernetic system in which the central nervous system controls the functions.

It is very possible that our thought processes and emotions have drastic impacts on physical efficiency in sport (and life in general) and, therefore, must be acknowledged." -W.A. Wallace

The brain and spinal cord act as the main control centers of the human body through two communications systems:

1) The nervous system (autonomic, voluntary)
2) Hormonal system (endocrine system).

The nervous system is involved with rapid processes such as seeing, hearing, thinking, and muscle contraction. The hormonal system is involved with slower processes, such as metabolism, cell growth, temperature regulation, etc.

These two systems are linked together in the middle of the brain (hypothalamus). As this part of the brain is linked to our emotional system (limbic system), it is very possible that our thought processes and emotions have drastic impacts on physical efficiency in sport (and life in general) and therefore, must be trained.
